Hi! I’m a MA student in Art History at State University of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), and am interested in studying the concept and experience of pain and its relation to Spinoza’s philosophy. Any hints?
    Best regards,

    Hello,

I was just informed of this network which interests me greatly. I am a Ph.D. student in intellectual history at University of California, Irvine. My work is on the effects of Spinoza/Spinozism in contemporary theory and politics.

    Best,
    Sean

Welcome to the network blog! Please feel free to post on whatever you’re working on now.

One of the purposes of this project is to find people working on Spinoza in different disciplines. For instance, it would be great to hear more about how art history makes use of Spinoza – or what Spinoza might have thought about art history as it’s practiced today. Any thoughts?

That would be great! My research is based on the iconography of pain in emblem books and I’m trying to think about the representation of pain in 17th-century with the help of Spinoza’s philosophy. Let’s hope it works!

Fascinating topic Ana! I want to hear more. Are you looking specifically in 17th century Europe, or in some cross-cultural context?

  7. Ana Resende

Specifically in Europe – Northern and French emblem books, mainly.
Anyone who thinks can help me or give any hint, may get in touch by email:
